Lab Postdoc Jashanjeet Kaur Dhaliwal Places First in Symposium

We are so proud of lab postdoctoral research associate, Jashanjeet Kaur Dhaliwal! Jashan placed 1st in the University of Tennessee’s Post Doc Research Symposium. The competition, held on March 8th, featured three-minute lightning talks from approximately 15 postdoctoral participants. Jashan presented an engaging speech that shared her research on soil nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions.

Her research project focused on investigating the diverse impacts of long-term soil health practices, specifically no-tillage and cover crops, on soil N2O emissions in a continuous cotton system. The study spanned a two-year duration at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson, Tennessee. The findings demonstrated that plots integrating cover crop hairy vetch exhibited elevated N2O emissions compared to those without hairy vetch, particularly under the application of 60 kg N ha⁻¹. Conversely, the adoption of no-tillage (NT) showed no significant influence on N2O emissions when compared to conventional tillage (CT). This study highlights the potential of NT as a beneficial approach in mitigating N2O emissions, attributed to its minimal impact on N2O and the prospect of carbon sequestration in the soil.

Congratulations, Jashan!
